Diesel Fuel Testing
Diesel is the main source of energy for transportation companies and industrial corporations operating mobile and stationary machineries.
Tribologik Laboratories provide a full scope of diesel fuel testing services to detect contaminants and assess fuel quality and environmental compliance with the directives of U.S. EPA and Environment Canada. (See our September 2015 Newsletter).
Fuel Compliance Testing
- ASTM D975 is the fuel testing standard for compliance with US EPA regulations
- CGSB 3.517 is the fuel testing standard for compliance with Environment Canada's standards on air pollution
Contaminated fuel is a major cause of high fuel consumption, soot emissions, unburned fuel, fume odor and high fuel costs. Contaminants clog the fuel filters, fuel lines and injector nozzles, causing engine malfunctions, higher maintenance costs, reduced machine life and catastrophic failure. (See our September 2016)
Water is the most frequent of all contaminants. Water can damage injector components and reduce the lubricity of the fuel, which can cause seizure of close tolerance components such as those found in modern high pressure injection systems
Fungus and bacteria are micro-organisms living in water. They deplete the energetic attributes of fuel and generate degradation products including hydrogen sulfide which is likely to provoke seizure, block injectors and plug the filter.
Sediments and other solids can also plug the filter, decrease performance, cause failures and damage your engines.
Pushed by EPA and Environment Canada regulations, biodiesel is more and more blended with petroleum based diesel to power truck fleets, specifically in the public sector (Ex: postal services, bus fleets, armed forces).
FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters covers the determination of biodiesel content in diesel fuel oils. It is applicable to concentrations from 1 to 30 volume?%.
Our Diesel fuel tests are available individually or in test packages.
